Dr. Romeu Eye Associates has provided West New York optometrist services for over four decades. We offer eye & vision exams, contact lens exams, Lasik eye surgery, Ortho-K, computer vision treatment, and sports vision services to the greater West New York area. We also offer services for patients who have problems with hard-to-fit contacts due to astigmatism, keratoconus, dry eyes, or the need for multifocal lenses.

Dr. Madeline Romeu, O.D., F.A.A.O. and her son, Dr. Anthony Gurdak O.D., have collectively served the West New York Optometrist society since 1976. They are both highly certified and committed to serving the West New York area for all of your vision needs. Both doctors are fluent in English and Spanish. Dr. Gurdak also speaks Polish and Italian.
Dr. Romeu has been in private practice since she graduated from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 1976. She was a recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens Excellence Award that same year.
Dr. Romeu is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a Diplomate in the Cornea, Contact Lens, and Refractive Technologies section of the American Academy of Optometry (which includes less than 120 worldwide). She serves as a consultant to a number of optically-focused companies and has lectured and been interviewed on numerous topics to English- and Spanish-speaking audiences.
Dr. Anthony Gurdak attended St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City and completed his graduate studies in biochemistry and management at Saint Peter’s University and the Chemical Institute of Sarriá in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Gurdak received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Inter-American University in Puerto Rico. Dr. Gurdak completed his doctoral internship at Omni Eye Services, working with their ophthalmological specialists in the areas of the retina, glaucoma, dry eye, cataract, oculoplastic-reconstructive, and neuro-ophthalmology. He is accredited and continues his professional education with the American Optometric Association, American College of Nutrition and International Academy of Orthokeratology.
As a member of the organization Volunteering Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH), Dr. Anthony Gurdak participates in screenings and delivering eye care to needy areas in the Dominican Republic. He has received recognition from the Lions Club and local authorities of the Dominican Republic for his work. He is fluent in Spanish and can communicate in Polish and Italian. Dr. Anthony Gurdak is proud to be serving the greater West New York community with his mother Dr. Madeline Romeu.
Dr. Jacqueline Y. Meléndez completed her bachelor’s degree in her native Puerto Rico at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras. Dr. Meléndez completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico in 2011. During her studies and as a member of volunteering optometric services to humanity, Dr. Meléndez devoted her spare time to eye care screenings in areas of need in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Upon graduation, she relocated to New Jersey to become a full time doctor on staff at Clara Mass Hospital and Children’s Eye Care Center of New Jersey. Under the guidance of Dr. Anthony R. Caputo and Dr. Rudolf Wagner she gained a decade of experience in pediatric eye care. In November of 2019, Dr. Meléndez joined Dr. Romeu Eye Associates as the specialist in primary pediatric eye care.
Dr. Meléndez continues her education and holds membership with the American Optometric Association, New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, and the Hudson County Society of Optometric Physicians. Dr. Meléndez is devoted in providing the highest quality care to her pediatric patients as well as the public in general. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Meléndez is proud to provide the greater West New York community with health care they will value for years to come.
